Fitness & Recreational Programs
fitness CLASSES AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER
The Parks and Recreation Department’s purpose is to provide quality recreational programming for all ages, which includes health, wellness, arts, leisure, and education to enhance the quality of life for the citizens in our community. Class participants will not be required to hold a Community Center membership to participate in a class. Some classes are not included in the membership packages, some classes are an additional cost.
The Portland Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to offer Yoga! Iyengar Yoga classes are ongoing with a variety of sessions that caters to most schedules. This class will have an emphasis on detail, precision, and alignment in the performance of yoga postures. Instruction provided by Brigid Feydo.
When: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Time: 10:00 AM
Where: Portland Community Center – Multipurpose Room
Cost: $12 Drop-in fee or $60 for 10 Classes
This class is a lower intensity version of the typical Zumba class that is specifically designed for active aging adults. Instruction provided by Oralia Alaniz. Sponsored by the WellMed Charitable Foundation.
When: Mondays & Wednesdays
Time: 11:00 AM
Where: Portland Community Center – Gymnasium
Cost: FREE to anyone ages 60+
This class will help you continue to build upper body, lower body, and core strength in a safe environment. This exercise program is especially designed for the aging adult. Instruction provided by Joshua Prado. Sponsored by the WellMed Charitable Foundation.
When: Tuesdays & Fridays
Time: 9:00 AM on Tuesdays and 2:00 PM on Fridays
Where: Portland Community Center – Gymnasium
Cost: FREE to anyone ages 60+
An all-levels mat based class that incorporates yoga tenets of strength, balance, and flexibility combined with the powerhouse core strength exercises of the Pilates methodology. Modifications offered for multiple variables; some to adapt to beginners as well as offering opportunities to make the movements more advanced or practitioner-specific! Please bring your own mat, water, and towel. If you have a yoga block or strap, please feel free to bring that as well. Instruction provided by Kelly Wala.
When: Tuesdays & Thursdays
Time: 12:30 PM

Cost: FREE to Members or $4.00 Drop In Fee for non-Members

Instructor Opportunities
The Portland Community Center is always looking for instructors interested in providing instructional programs at our newly remodeled facility. If you have a special skill or talent and are interested in sharing this skill through an instructional class, then this is the place to get started! With our new large, renovated kitchen this would be an ideal space for cooking classes or demonstrations!
Our large multipurpose room and open gym space is perfect for fitness classes! Our Portland Senior Center is a great place for a low impact exercise program or a painting class.
